How to Draw a Dog
Step 1

Using a pencil (so you can erase), let’s start our dog with a simple circle! Draw a circle in the center of your page – this will be the head of your dog. Make sure your circle isn’t too small or too big, as we’ll be adding more details and shapes around it.

Step 2

Now, let’s add the ears and eyes! Draw two small circles inside the head for the eyes, positioning them toward the right side. Then add a floppy ear on the left side using a curved shape. This gives our puppy that adorable, friendly look!

Step 3

Time to add the snout and facial details! Draw a small curved shape on the left side of the face for the nose and mouth area. Add in the pupils to the eyes and a cute smile. Your dog is really starting to come to life now!

Fun Fact: Dogs have about 300 million smell receptors in their noses, compared to only 6 million in humans! This means dogs can smell things we can’t even imagine, which is why they’re so good at jobs like finding lost people, detecting medical conditions, and even sniffing out hidden treats!

Fun Fact: Dogs can understand up to 250 words and gestures, count up to five, and even do simple math! Some of the smartest dog breeds, like Border Collies and Poodles, can learn new commands in less than five repetitions.

Fun Fact: A dog’s nose print is as unique as a human fingerprint! No two dogs have the same nose print pattern, which is why some organizations use nose prints to identify lost or stolen dogs.

Step 4

Now let’s add the other ear! Draw a matching floppy ear on the right side of the dog’s head. This gives your puppy a balanced, symmetrical look. You can make the ears slightly different shapes if you want to add some personality to your dog!

Step 5

Time to draw the body! Add a curved oval shape below the head for the dog’s body. This gives your puppy a cute, sitting position. Make sure the body connects smoothly to the head and is proportional – not too big or too small compared to the head size.

Step 6

Finally, let’s add the legs and tail to complete our dog! Draw two front legs at the bottom of the body, adding small lines to show the paws. Then add a cute curved tail on the right side. Your adorable puppy drawing is now complete! You can color it in any pattern you like – spots, solid colors, or even make it look like your own pet!

Fun Fact: Dogs can hear sounds four times farther away than humans can! They can also hear higher-pitched sounds that our ears can’t detect at all. This super hearing helps them know when someone is coming to the door before you even hear a knock!

Fun Fact: Puppies are born deaf and blind! When they’re first born, their eyes and ears are closed. It takes about two weeks for their eyes to open and three weeks before they can hear. This is why newborn puppies stay so close to their mother!
