Rainbow Coloring Page Tips & Tricks

Are you looking for fun and unique coloring tips you can share with your students? In the above photo you can see two different methods for coloring in clouds! As fluffy and as cute as big white clouds are, they can be a tad frustrating for students to color them in. In the first example, a light blue is used to give them more color and shadow. In the second example, a harsh interior shadow line is draw to give the impression of a big fluffy 3D cloud.

Looking for a way to brighten up your colors? Try blending two different mediums together. In the photo above you can see we’ve first put down pastel shades of melon and lilac using alcohol-based markers (students can use water-based markers for a similar effect). You can also see that we’ve left white space between some of the lines, which are drawn in a radial pattern coming from the center body to the edges of the wings.

Next, we’ve drawn over the top with colored pencils in various shades to add depth to the color. First, we used purple colored pencils then pink. Strokes are again added in the direction of a bulging wing to help enhance the design. Those negative white spaces are now working in our favor to give the effect of a shiny 3D butterfly wing.
